Undergraduate Thesis - 'Copyright Licence Trumps Artists’ Consent: Prefigurative Resistance to the Political Use of Music'
In Semester 2 of 2021, during my undergraduate law degree at the University of Newcastle, I enrolled in the ‘Advanced Legal Research Project’ course to write a dissertation. My dissertation was supervised by Dr Marie Hadley. Due to my interest in intellectual property law and my previous Research Assistant work with Dr Marie Hadley in the area, the thesis primarily concerned copyright law. The thesis deconstructed United States’ copyright and trademark law with respect to musical works. The paper then applied a sociopolitical analysis to the context of Donald Trump employing copyrighted music without permission at his rallies.
